Download Shipown
The installer comes from the same download server the desktop app uses for updates. You do not need a license key to download. Activate after install.
Debian & Ubuntu (.deb, 64-bit)
Apple Silicon & Intel
Your computer will warn you. Here is why, and what to do.
Shipown is not code-signed yet. A signing certificate is a yearly bill, and while this is a small product that money goes into building it instead. A signature would not change a single thing the app does — it only puts a company name in the warning box. So Windows and macOS will tell you the publisher is unknown, and you have to say you meant it.
What proves this file is ours is the checksum below. Every in-app update is checked against the same number before it installs.
Windows“Windows protected your PC”
Your browser may say the file is not commonly downloaded first. Choose Keep — in Chrome and Edge that is behind the … menu on the download, then Keep anyway.
When you run it, a blue box appears saying Windows protected your PC, with Unknown publisher. That is SmartScreen, and it is what an unsigned installer looks like:
- Click More info.
- Click Run anyway.
The window closes itself and Shipown installs for your user only — no administrator password, nothing written outside your account.
macOS“Apple could not verify…”
The macOS build is not published yet. When it is, this is the step it will need.
macOS refuses to open an app from an unidentified developer on the first try, with either “Apple could not verify Shipown is free of malware” or “Shipown cannot be opened because it is from an unidentified developer”.
- Drag the app to Applications and try to open it once. Let it be refused.
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll to the Security section: it now says Shipown was blocked, with an Open Anyway button.
- Click it, then Open in the box that follows. macOS remembers, and never asks again.
On older macOS you can also Control-click the app in Finder and choose Open.
LinuxA local .deb, not a repository
Debian and Ubuntu install a downloaded package without complaint; some graphical software centres refuse local files, so the terminal is the short way:
sudo apt install ./shipown-0.1.0-rc.8-amd64.debUpdates arrive the same way: Shipown downloads the new package, checks it, and hands it to your desktop’s package installer.
Check the file is the one we published
Run this where the file downloaded, and compare it with the number below. If they do not match, do not install it — and tell us.
